Conclave.

The Universe's cursed me with bad luck lately.
So my gorgeous friend L popped round early this morning to cheer me up with some roses.
And she also bravely disposed of the (Brace Yourselves People) revolting dead rat that I discovered in the garden (The Glamour).
Thanks L.
You are a Brave and Stoic Gem. And I luff you for it.
Meanwhile, yesterday I threw on this mauve Malene Birger number and met Old Lotus for lunch at the Fat Noodle.
That Pucci scarf's been good to me.
Luffed her pink bag
Too injured to garden.
The news is full of the Cardinal Conclave and the new Pope.
I like the outfits.
Spookily, the new Pope and I have lots in common- we both live in modest homes, catch public transport to our respective Coalfaces and cook our own meals without the assistance of servants.
Apart from the fact that he's God's Chosen Representative on Earth we're practically Twins.
Twins I tell You.
Speaking of outfits how good does the Queen look in this pink frock edged in mauve?
Her violet rinsed Standard Issue Queen Hair matches the trim perfectly.
Lotus sent me a snap of the Q in this excellent tweed jacket. Right on Trend. As always.
Vegetarians Avert Your Eyes Now!
Because here is a snap of some Steak.
Popped into Jean Brown the other day to see all the lovely new stock.
Luffed this Kotur lava lamp style clutch.
How good is this Anya tassel? It's a veritable tasseltastic treat.
Mr Lincoln sends its luff.
Is the Universe throwing disappointing circumstances your way?
Or showering you with Good Luck and Glory?
Are you the Twin of Someone Famous?
Cheerio.

  1. I love that lava lamp clutch and the one with the tassel!

And I must get myself to Fat Noodle...your photos definitely make it seem worth the trip!

And I love the red Pope shoes...someone once told me they were Prada...I have no idea if that is true but I like the idea that the Pope wears Prada...since the Devil Wears Prada, I suppose the Pope should too!

I hope you are well enough to get back in the garden too!

    3. Me too ... and they are indeed Prada. Have had them for years, look gorgeous, people often comment on them and they are soooooooooo comfy .G

    4. Benedict got his red papal shoes from Prada. No word yet if Francis I will follow suit. Loved that the Vatican amassed full papal outfits in many sizes, so they could dress the new pope without too much delay.

    5. I'm not sure the Pope's red Prada flats would have had the same rosette on the toe as yours FF, but then again, they do love a dress in the Vatican, so you never know! xx

  2. The rats ate my car. Insurers have declared it a statutory write off. True story, nuff said. Congrats on being a voice of 2013. I will vote if that's how it works, cause fellow rat sufferers have my sympathy (and you bring me joy in my everyday mundane...) xxx

  3. LOVE that tassel bag. It's got your name on it. So sorry you're having a bad few weeks. I have felt like that too.... kind of exhausted actually. Retail therapy was the result. As for the rat, you should rejoice that it was a dead one. The only ones I spot in my garden are alive. Hope you're feeling better soon. xx

  6. Just thinking about rats makes my furry ears tingle with revulsion. Ha - of course they'd be listening to the old Rat Pack music! I'd put arsenic in their martinis. Love your dress & scarf combo. It's so disappointing to be let down by people. I hope you're now firmly on the mend. The Pope wishes he was your twin! So do I.

  7. My luck has been equal parts good and bad. I don't know what it all means. Is the glass half empty or is it half full? The thing I have noticed is that when I am having lots of good and bad luck all at once, I end up more busy than I would like to be. So busy.

My lover found a rat carcass in my courtyard a few months ago and I was not shocked. It was very unpleasant but no surprise. Lucky for me he dealt with the remains and I just have the story instead of the memory of the body.

The pope does wear Prada shoes! Turns out I have a lot in common with the pope too! Who knew!

I have to get to the Fat Noodle!

  11. You poor thing. Nobody deserves rats, not ever. I once awoke to find a dead rat in the toilet bowl. Truth. It plagued me for weeks wondering if it had come up through the pipes (yikes) or been wandering around the bathroom, say, when it slipped and fell in (there are no words).
Re sparkletastic accessories; I have been coveting that navy AH clutch since I first spied yours so perhaps you have single-handedly cured my sequin-aversion?

  12. Yup feeling a bit grotty last couple of days, was feeling good but then went for a job interview and it was vile! First part went okay but then had to do a phone based role play and the guy went for it, 25 minutes I tell you of being battered by an angry customer.
Anyway not heard back so think I didn't get the job, not necessarily totally fed up as not sure wanted this particular job anyway but do need a job soon as Green Towers on the brink of bankruptcy!

  18. Once I had a rat take up residence in my car! nestled down by the motor, very mortifying to have the car guy tell me. I have found when I feel down that even though it takes some energy to get there, once I'm with my grandkids, an afternoon of tetherball, playing with the hose and many games of "simon says" usually bounces me back to my usual fabulous self. I hope you are feeling better soon.

But before our interview about the black smoke made it on air (6 hour time difference) they picked the new guy, so our story got bumped. Tragic. There goes my claim to fame.

Oh well, still having fun. Toured Vatican museum today, lots of jewel encrusted goodies and fancy vestments. FF would LUFF it. Am now drinking red wine in advance of going out to dinner. La Dolce Vita indeed!

  21. I had always heard that Pope John Paul wore Doc Martins.

We have rats here, too. They live in the avocado trees and wood piles. As we are "the Avocado Capital" of the US, there's plenty of rats...also the two-footed kind who are experts at letting people down.

    Hang in there!

  22. Aren't bad things supposed to come in threes? By my reckoning you're done---tumble in the garden, let down by circumstances, and let down by people. (I'm breaking out the letting down). Good things are surely on the way.

Rats are disease-spreading vermin. A friend who went to university in a northern city said everyone wore clogs at night to frighten away the rats as they walked across campus. Alas that's not going to clear your path of dead rats.

I am optimistic and cheerful by nature---when crummy stuff happens, I do something like online shopping and consider the bad stuff fodder for stories (I'm a writer). I will hum that Everything is going my way song from Disney in complete defiance of circumstances.

Love that Pucci scarf. Did you see the NYT article about the new Pucci shop? The one that declared Pucci is relevant again?

The last pope got his red papal shoes at Prada. No word on whether Francis will as well. His shoes did look the same though.

You're right about the letting down being character building and informative. In those circumstance it's good to recall that JFK once advised forgiving your "enemies" but never forgetting who they are.

Fingers and toes crossed that everything improves exponentially.

  27. Dear FF,
Sorry you are still struggling with the legacy of your tumble. I hope you did what the doctor ordered and had all your bits checked out this is not the time to be stoic.
As you know we have had our share this year of deep sadness but we are slowly learning to live without someone we so deeply loved and get on with living our lifes as he would have wanted.
I have a hell of a rat story. L went outside near the outside airconditioner fan thingie and discovered sliced rat as far as the eye could see. It had obviously been hiding in the fan and when it turned on rat splat! Even D found it too challenging to deal with and our trusty lawnmower man came to the rescue.
The remanants of Catholic childhood make me slightly interested in the papal goings on. Gee they do put on a good show thats for sure.
Now Miss I hear you are on some blogs of the year thingie so please keep us posted on how we can vote for you!

  29. The universe is throwing disappointing circumstances my way too and its doubly difficult when it involves persons who should know better. And hurtful and sad to boot.
The best part of attending Mass as a child for me was feasting my eyes on the clobber and pomp and ceremony and watching the ladies walk back from Communion in their Sunday best, I especially enjoyed watching the parade of footwear passing my pew (always sat on the end so I could gawk). Pretty sure our parish priest didnt wear Prada.
Lets hope circumstances are on the improve and if not then I agree shopping nulls the pain.

  30. Last week the universe definitely through some rubbish my way in the area of health (mine to be exact) - it does that from time to time as I have an autoimmune health problem that flares up plus I got horrible food poisoning. Generally I just do whatever has to be done and get the hell on with it however I was feeling a bit flat about the whole thing to be honest. The Farmer went to Perth and came back with lots of new gorgeous rose bushes for my garden to cheer me up. It worked no end. Plus, like you, my friends are amazing and do all sorts of things for me. Good lipstick helps too.

What's this about you being a voice of 2013?? I have missed something but would love to go and do voting etc if that is required. Fill me in.

Take care and hope you get less sore soon. xx

  31. I found a dead rat in my garden a few weeks ago too! And then, a couple days later, a dead blue tongue in the same exact spot. Since these things come in threes, I'm dreading what's next. I think the neighbor's cat is responsible. I prefer my rats dead, of course, but why did it have to be on my side of the fence? I love the facts about the Pope's shoes. Hope things look up for you.

  32. Hi FF, love your Pucci scarf. Hope things improve for you ASAP. I myself did some shopping at JB other day. It's not the same.

May I say, we don't know our luck not having lived through these dreadful times. I hope the allegations are not true. Now, where is that snake of yours when you need it? He should be on duty deterring the smarter rats and gobbling the rest. I am sorry to hear the Universe is treating you badly. However, the flip side is that we see our tried and tested stalwart friends as more precious. As Mrs Blighty always says, "Bon Courage my dear". love Lindaxxx

  46. Sorry to hear that things have been sucky in FF-land. Here's a little rat story that might make you smile. Our dearly departed German Shorthair was quite the little huntress--birds, rats, squirrels; if it moved and smelled delicious, she was interested. She parked herself in front of our built-in barbeque and waited for my husband to open it. When he did, the rat leapt out and she snagged it mid-air, delivering the decisive coup de grâce. Good girl. Truly a versatile hunting dog!

Love red loafers. I have a pair of Cole-Haan red patent leather ones. I like them on rainy days.

Re: being the twin of someone famous: about 30 years ago when I was very, very young and just married there was a guy who would see me at the market and shout out "Hey Sophia." As in Sophia Loren. It had to have been the vaguely exotic eyes because I am certainly not built like her! It was flattering and somewhat mortifying all at the same time.
